Tenn. Man Killed 3 Women and 13-Year-Old Girl, Was Found Dead by Apparent Suicide After Manhunt

Police said Mavis Christian Jr., was a “known relative” of the victims

A Tennessee man was found dead in his car hours after police responded to a shooting spree that killed three women and a teenage girl and injured another teenager.

Police in Memphis, Tenn. said 52-year-old Mavis Christian Jr., was the prime suspect in the shooting of the victims across three locations on Saturday, according to an initial statement from the Memphis Police Department.

Police said Christian Jr., was a “known relative” of the victims, according to a social media post from the department, and that the shootings were related to a “domestic violence” incident.

Police did not name the victims but Selise Manuel, whose mother was killed, confirmed the identities of the deceased to WREG as her mother, Ruby Manuel, her sister Lateisha Bobo, and her niece, a 13-year-old identified only as Tori. Selise said another niece, a 15-year-old girl, was injured in the attack.

Selise also identified the suspect as her uncle, according to the outlet. She said she found her mother’s body in their home.

Following a manhunt across multiple jurisdictions, police found Christian Jr. early Sunday morning “suffering from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound” in his vehicle nearby Bobo's residence, the department said in an update on Sunday.

Selise told the outlet that her 15-year-old niece “is doing okay. She’s up, alert, talking, joking.”

“Emotionally, she’s sad,” Selise said. “She lost her sister, her mother, and her grandmother all in some hours.”

According to Ruby's LinkedIn and social media profiles, she was a dental lab technician.

Police have not discussed a motive yet and Memphis police did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for further information.
