‘I Tell Myself That It Was A Very Bad Situation And I Did All I Could,’ Says Survivor Of Uvalde School Shooting

On May 24, 2022, an 18-year-old gunman took the lives of nineteen children and two teachers when he opened fire on two classrooms at Robb Elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. Eleven-year-old Khloie survived the shooting by playing dead. Her best friend, Amerie, did not. “She was very sweet and kind, but she could also be very sassy whenever she wanted,” says Khloie about Amerie. Khloie’s parents, Jaime and Ruben, say that she has been struggling with survivor’s guilt ever since the shooting. Khloie says, “I tell myself that it was a very bad situation, and I did all I could.” She also says she wonders if she could have done more to help. Watch the video above to hear more from Khloie as she remembers her friend Amerie and the others lost that day at Robb Elementary. The conclusion of this two-part Dr. Phil Exclusive, “Through a Child’s Eyes: Surviving a Mass Tragedy,” airs Friday.
