Tekashi 6ix9ine Arrested in the Dominican Republic on Domestic Violence Charges: Report

The American rapper was previously arrested last year for an alleged assault and failng to appear in court over various traffic citations

Tekashi 6ix9ine has been arrested in the Dominican Republic

According to The Associated Press, the American rapper, 27, was arrested on Wednesday by authorities in Santo Domingo on charges of domestic violence.

The recording artist (whose real name is Daniel Hernández) is reportedly being held in jail in the Dominican Republic capital and scheduled to appear in court on Thursday. Per the AP, a judge will decide at the hearing if Tekashi 6ix9ine must remain in jail or freed on bond as authorities carry out an investigation.

The musician — known for his breakout mixtape Day69 and hits like “Gummo” and “Fefe” with Nicki Minaj — has had run-ins with the law multiple times before.

Per the AP, in October of last year, Tekashi 6ix9ine was also arrested and accused at the time of assaulting a record producer in Dominican Republic after he and his collaborator, Dominican rapper Yailín la Más Viral, had been working at the producer’s studio. The current status of charges in that incident is unclear.

Several months prior in August, the “Gooba” rapper was arrested in Palm Beach, Florida after failing to appear in court. He had previously been issued three traffic citations, and when he did not make a court date scheduled for July, a judge issued a warrant for his arrest.

The hip-hop artist was pulled over for another traffic incident while driving a car without a license tag and using an expired license, leading to his arrest.

Tekashi 6ix9ine was also hospitalized in March 2023 after being attacked by three men inside the bathroom of a Florida gym.

The three suspects involved with the incident were later arrested and the rapper uploaded a video of it to Instagram, breaking his silence about the situation in the caption.

"What happen[ed] here was nothing but cowardly. I'm not mad this happened," he wrote. "In the street, there's no rules, so I can't say they were wrong. Obviously, it wasn't fair, but again the streets has no rules. Just imagine having nothing to do with a situation and feel obligated to make it your business. (Very weird) I'm happy to be here still. And I want to say I love my fans. Thank you."

Back in January 2019, the “Trollz” rapper pleaded guilty to nine felony charges, including a variety of firearm offenses, and admitted his involvement with the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods, as previously reported by the New York Post.

He was sentenced to two years but was released from federal prison early in April 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns.

Tekashi 6ix9ine was also previously sentenced to four years probation and 1,000 hours of community service in October 2018 for a prior arrest over his involvement in a child sex case.
