It’s been 20 years since Tegan and Sara’s If It Was You first debuted. Early next year, the duo will celebrate their third studio album with a string of acoustic tour dates in which they will play the record in its entirety.
The new tour dates will take Tegan and Sara through the Canadian province of Ontario for 12 stops next March and April. On Twitter, the band shared that the setlist for these shows will include “If It Was You in its entirety, as well as fan faves.” Becca Mancari will join the duo as the supporting act for each of the dates.
Tickets for the shows go on sale on Friday, September 8th. with a fan pre-sale set for Wednesday, September 6th. In a statement on their site, Tegan and Sara explained that they wanted to pay homage to If It Was You because they see the record as “the first one that truly set our band on its way.” Writing about the first song the duo recorded for the project, “Not Tonight,” Tegan shared: “That night, sprawled in front of the speakers of my stereo at home, I listened with headphones again and again and again. I finally felt like we were getting close to sounding like the band I heard in my head.”
Meanwhile, Tegan and Sara are still wrapping up their ongoing 2023 tour, and are set to continue playing shows across the United States through the beginning of November, including appearances at festivals like Riot Fest and All Things Go. For the majority of the dates, they’re joined by Claire Hanson. The final show of that run, set for November 4th in Solvang, California, will feature support from Hand Habits. Last year, Tegan and Sara unveiled their 10th studio album, Crybaby. Around that same time, the Amazon Freevee show, High School, premiered, based on a memoir of the same name that the duo wrote in 2019. A coming of age story, Consequence’s Sam Rosenberg described the series as “muted, but sweet,” and celebrated the show’s focus on how the Canadian sisters were shaped into the world-renown artists they are today. Earlier this year, they followed-up High School with a graphic novel entitled Junior High, which debuted this past May.
