Rachanda Pickle

Rachanda Pickle was 13 when she vanished from her home in Sweet Home, Ore., in 1990.

Her disappearance rocked the quiet, picturesque community — and it led to the discovery of a series of missing young girls and women who vanished, were sexually assaulted or murdered between the late 1970s and early 1990s along a stretch of U.S. Highway 20.

What happened to the women, including Kaye Turner, Pickle, Melissa Sanders, and Sheila Swanson and survivor Marlene Gabrielsen, along with the suspect who was hiding in plain sight, is the subject of a three-part docuseries, Lost Women of Highway 20, premiering Sunday, Nov. 5 at 9/8c on ID.

The docuseries is narrated by Oscar winning actress and film producer Octavia Spencer.

The women who were victims of crimes along Highway 20 were spotlighted in a series of cold case multimedia stories in The Oregonian, which published a five-part in December 2018 that spotlighted the failures of the criminal justice system — and the obstacles women face in getting justice.

The series won five Emmy Awards and the the National Journalism Impact Award from the National Women’s Coalition Against Violence and Exploitation, The Oregonian reported.
