Damon Wayans Jr. and Andrew “King Bach” Bachelor have engaged David F. Walker to co-write and Ben Bishop to illustrate graphic novel “Shogun Run.”

Wayans Jr and Bachelor had revealed earlier this year that they would create and write the graphic novel. Set in 1990s South Central Los Angeles, “Shogun Run” is described as “Big Trouble in Little China” meets “Attack the Block.” David Uslan, Gary Glushon and Sean Oswolo will serve as creative advisors and producing partners on the project.

Walker is best known for graphic novel “Shaft: A Complicated Man” as well as the Will Eisner Award-winning comic book series “Bitter Root.” Bishop is known for his work on the New York Times bestseller “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin.”

“Shogun Run” will be published by First Second, an imprint of Macmillan Publishers, in 2025. A series or film adaptation of the graphic novel is on the cards down the line. Allison Verost, senior VP and publishing director at Macmillan, will oversee the project for the publisher. “Shogun Run” will be edited by Calista Brill, editorial director of First Second Books, alongside Nachie Marsham. Kirk Benshoff will serve as creative director. Macmillan acquired English-language rights from Eric Reid at WME.

“David F. Walker and Ben Bishop are two of the most talented people in the graphic novel space and we’re thrilled to welcome them to our creative team. We’re excited to create and share this exciting, fun and action-packed story with the world,” Wayans Jr. and Bachelor said in a statement.

Wayans Jr. was in Netflix’s “The Harder They Fall,” which opened the 2021 BFI London Film Festival and went on to win a BAFTA. Bachelor, an internet personality with more than 28 million followers on TikTok as King Bach, most recently appeared in McG’s Netflix comedy “Family Switch,” Ric Roman Waugh’s sports drama “National Champions” and 20th Century Studio and Broken Road Productions’ comedy “Vacation Friends” for Hulu.

Wayans Jr. is represented by UTA and Johnson, Shapiro, Slewett & Cole and Bachelor by UTA, Bach Enterprises and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
