Teen Charged in Murders of Dad, Brother, 5, and Boy’s Mom Found Stabbed to Death in Bronx Building: Police

Jayden Rivera, 19, was arrested on charges of murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon, the NYPD said

A teenager was arrested after being accused by police of murdering three family members, including his 5-year-old brother, who were found dead inside a Bronx, N.Y., apartment building on Sunday.

On Wednesday, Jayden Rivera, 19, was arrested on charges of murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon, the New York City Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE.

Rivera is accused of killing his father, 38-year-old Jonathan Rivera, whose body was found by responding officers in the first-floor hallway of the building on 674 E. 136th Street around 6:40 a.m. on Nov. 26, the NYPD said.

Police then found Hanoi Peralta, 38, and the 5-year-old son she shared with Rivera, Kayden Rivera, dead inside their first-floor apartment.

All three victims had been fatally stabbed, police said.

Police believe the suspect was babysitting his brother while his father and father’s girlfriend went out on a date, according to WABC-TV and CBS News.

Neighbor Fernando Cruz told FOX5 that he heard “a scuffle or something going on in the hallway."

“I know I heard that, and then I heard a woman screaming," Cruz said.

According to PIX11 News, neighbor Larry Wesley said, “the family seemed so nice, and everybody got along just right.”

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched by loved ones to help offset funeral costs. Jonathan, a maintaintence worker, was remembered on the fundraiser as a "friend and dedicated father."

"His hard work and positive spirit made a significant impact on the entire team," the fundraiser states. "You could always find him laughing and supporting teachers as needed, giving high-fives to the students and welcoming parents, always going above and beyond."

"Many of us had the privilege of witnessing the beautiful bond he shared with his son, a Sunshine alumnus and the pride and joy he expressed while talking about his family," it continued.

A motive has not yet been shared by police.

It’s unclear if Jayden has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.
