The official trailer for Peacock’s upcoming Ted series has dropped, and it gives viewers a clearer look at how Ted the Bear and his best friend John Bennett try to survive the awkwardness of high school in the 1990s.

Created by Seth MacFarlane, the R-rated series — at least from the trailer — seems to hit all the right nostalgia notes with music from The Proclaimers, lots of big hair, piano key neckties and a brief glimpse of a classic Volkswagen Golf convertible.

The series takes place in 1993, right after Ted’s moment of fame has passed. He’s now living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts, with his best friend John. In the clip, we see Ted (voiced by MacFarlane) and John (Max Burkholder) negotiating school without much success but also trying to get laid and high, all the things audiences have come to expect from the comedy franchise.

The cast also includes Alanna Ubach (Euphoria), Scott Grimes (The Orville) and Giorgia Whigham (13 Reasons Why).

The Ted series is a prequel to Universal’s two theatrical films. Released in 2012, the first film, Ted, starred Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis and made a whopping $549 million at the box office. Ted 2 followed in 2015, with Wahlberg returning to star alongside Amanda Seyfried, but the movie saw its box office peak at $216 million.

MacFarlane serves as writer, executive producer, co-showrunner and director on the Ted series, with Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh serving as executive producers, writers and co-showrunners. The show is produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, Fuzzy Door and MRC.

Ted hits Peacock on Jan. 11, 2024. The limited series consists of seven episodes.
