Ted Ligety's son doesn't care that 'daddy sucked at work today'

NBC skiing analyst Bode Miller got in trouble earlier these Olympics when he jokingly suggested that getting married and having children hurts skiing careers.

The truth is what they really do is provide a healthy amount of perspective.

American star Ted Ligety showed as much on Sunday, posting an Instagram picture of his smiling son after experiencing one of his most disappointing days as an athlete.

“He is the bright spot on the day,” Ligety wrote. “Jax could give two s____s that daddy sucked at work today.”

Judging from Jax’s grin, dad is right.

And judging from dad’s grin, his disappointment on the slopes was pushed a bit farther away.

Ligety had already had a tough Olympics before Sunday’s giant slalom. He finished fifth in the alpine combined (an event he won gold in at the 2006 Turin Games) and posted a DNF in the super-G.

But any hope that he’d be able to defend his 2014 gold medal in the giant slalom was basically wiped out after finishing 2.44 seconds behind the leader in the first run. Ligety placed 15th in the event and later told NBC’s Heather Cox that it may have been his final Olympic race. At 33 and with several injuries behind him, it’s unlikely Ligety would still be competitive by the time 2022 Beijing rolls around.

It is still unclear, however, if Ligety will compete in the slalom later this week.

Regardless of what he decides, Jax Ligety will be there for his dad. The seven-month-old son of Ligety and Mia Pascoe got a lot of social media love when he was shown wearing a tiny blue puffy jacket early in NBC’s primetime broadcast on Saturday.

For those of you who can’t get enough Jax, here’s a shot of him not giving two s____s that his dad had a great day at work.

Podium buddies! Jax is not impressed. #happy7monthbirthday
