Tecumseh school board, city officials planning study session

TECUMSEH — The Tecumseh school board is planning on having a joint work session with the city to go over many things, not the least of which is the district’s bond proposal.

“I’ve talked with the city mayor and city manager about having a joint work session between the council and the board,” Superintendent Rick Hilderley said. “It would be largely focused on the bond project and just answering your questions and sharing knowledge about what it is, what it covers, how it impacts the city, but also having discussions about things that we jointly consider, the (school resource officer) being one of them.”

Hilderley said he plans on scheduling the session in January or early February.

Board President Tony Rebottaro has also spoken to Mayor Jack Baker about the session.

“He expressed his interest in that and I told him he has my full commitment as well,” Rebottaro said.

District planning strategic planning session

About 45 students, staff, administration and community members are expected to take part in a strategic planning session for the Tecumseh school district on Jan. 22. Rebottaro said Hilderley and and his executive assistant, Veronica Moore, are starting to send out invitations.

Hilderley confirmed that the administration will be sending invites this week.

“It was broken down to about 50% staff and students and us, the administration and the board and then 50% community. So moving forward with that. The next big thing is to get people signed up,” Rebottaro said.

Board member Mary Tommelein was happy students are being included.

“I’ve sat on strategic things before and I can’t remember there ever being students, so I think that that is exceptional,” Tommelein said.

Board receives donations

The board received two donations Monday night. The first came from Kirchhoff Automotive for $1,000 for Arrowhead Robotics and the second, from County National Bank, for $1,800 for athletic sponsorships in the 2021-2022 season.
