Tecumseh Pops Orchestra & Community Chorus to debut new composition in spring concert

TECUMSEH — This spring's Tecumseh Pops Orchestra & Community Chorus concert will feature the premiere of a composition honoring Tecumseh's bicentennial.

"Through All These Years," an original composition by Phil Devaney in celebration of Tecumseh’s bicentennial, will be performed by both ensembles during the "Classics Through Time" concert at 3 p.m. May 5 at the Tecumseh Center for the Arts, 400 N. Maumee St.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors, students and military personnel and are available at the TCA box office, online at thetca.org or by phone at 517-423-6617. Tickets also are available one hour prior to showtime, but patrons are encouraged to buy in advance to avoid lines on performance day.

The Community Chorus, under the direction of conductor Bill Abbott, along with the Pops Orchestra and its conductor Joe McInchak will take a musical journey through time with vocal selections such as "Forever Doo Wop," featuring songs "A Teenager in Love," "In the Still of the Night," "Book of Love," "Save the Last Dance" and "Goodnight Sweetheart," and No. 1 hits of their day, "Yesterday," "Jailhouse Rock," "Nine to Five" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water," a news release said. Orchestra selections include "Grease!" featuring songs "Born to Hand Jive," "Summer Nights," "Greased Lightnin’," "Beauty School Dropout" and "We Go Together" as well as "Star Wars Through The Years," "The Best of The Beatles" and "Over the Rainbow."

Along with "Through All These Years," the concert will feature the combined talents of the Pops and Chorus on "What a Wonderful World."

Bob Elliott, local historian, author, and member of the Bicentennial Celebration Committee, also will be on hand to welcome guests to the concert and offer some insight to the afternoon’s presentation.
