Tearful ‘Daily Show’ Goodbye for Correspondent Jessica Williams

After four funny years, The Daily Show correspondent Jessica Williams is leaving to star in her own show on Comedy Central. The correspondent made waves as the first black woman to hold the position, as well as being the youngest. She quickly became a fan favorite and a much-loved fixture around the studio.

Trevor Noah seemed at a loss for words when bidding Williams adieu, but he did say this: “This building is going to suffer from a lack of J.Williness.”

Correspondents Jordan Klepper and Roy Wood Jr. had some parting words for their colleague. Klepper said, “Jess, when I first came in, I was so impressed by how young and talented you were, it almost made me angry. And now as you are ready to leave I am honored to say, I’m still pissed.”

Wood highlighted some of Williams’s best moments, saying, “You’ve covered so many stories about black women and gay rights and pastors who think that there’s semen in Starbucks coffee.”

Williams wiped away tears during all the well wishes, a very touching moment. Williams’s new show is a 30-minute scripted comedy series that she will be writing and starring in.

The Daily Show airs weeknights at 11 p.m. on Comedy Central.
