Teacher resigns after mocking disabled student on Instagram: 'Send food, send patience'
A North Carolina teacher is in hot water — and out of a job — after a video of her shaming a student in a wheelchair went viral.
According to WBTV, the Mooresville High School teacher complained in an Instagram video that she couldn’t go on a field trip this week because of one student, who is in a wheelchair.
The teacher, who wears a Mooresville lanyard in the video, placed an “Ugh” emoji over the student’s face before launching into her rant.
“This girl has not made a peep since we got into the classroom from the bus,” she said in the video. “Her unruly behavior was literally just to get out of the field trip and now we both get to sit here and stare at each other for the next three hours while the class is gone. Happy freakin’ Wednesday.”
The teacher captioned the footage, “One student created an unsafe bus environment for my class, so guess who had to stay back with an unruly child while the rest of the class goes on a field trip.”

She also wrote, “Also didn’t pack a lunch today because I thought I’d be eating pizza with the class. Send food, send patience.” The woman reportedly added, "Be a teacher they said. It will be fun, they said."
Parents in the district are angry that she posted it to her social media account.
"It’s disappointing. As an educator, the job is to encourage and uplift children. To post that online, I don’t find it encouraging at all," parent Geoff Stafford told WCNC.
"If she doesn't enjoy her job and she doesn't enjoy being a teacher, maybe she should find something else to do,” Shannon Myers told WCNC.
District spokesperson Tanae Sump-McLean tells Yahoo Lifestyle that the teacher resigned on Friday.
“The teacher who posted the video to social media voluntarily resigned her position with the Mooresville Graded Schools this morning, August 30, 2019,” she said via email. “By law, the school board cannot comment on any specific employee matters. However, it is important for parents and the community to understand that anytime a question arises regarding the conduct of a school employee specific to their job, the Superintendent and school administrators work diligently to ensure the best possible outcome for our students.”
