#TBT: Brooke Shields Cozies Up to College Sweetheart Dean Cain ... and a Third Wheel

Then: Brooke Shields was taking a break from her modeling and acting career to study at Princeton University in the 1987 photo of her with Dean Cain and a friend that she shared Thursday. As she famously wrote about in her 2014 memoir, There Was a Little Girl: The Real Story of My Mother and Me, Shields’s college sweetheart was Cain (middle), who played football and was the future star of the ‘90s TV show Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Interestingly enough, Shields acknowledged that she was “the most celebrated virgin of our time” before finally losing it to Cain circa the year this pic was taken. The couple would split soon after.

Now: On Wednesday, Shields — who’s been married to producer Chris Henchy since 2001 — talked about the strange coincidence of giving birth to her daughter Grier on the very same day, in the very same hospital where Katie Holmes gave birth to her daughter, Suri, with Brooke’s one-time nemesis Tom Cruise.

“I get to my room, it’s all top secret I’m under an alias,” she told Jenny McCarthy on McCarthy’s SiriusXM show Dirty, Sexy, Funny. “We had a decoy car because people had been following me to the hospital. "I look out the window and there’s helicopters and movie cameras downstairs and news cameras outside. And I was like, 'This is an outrage. Who alerted the media? Can’t I just have a baby?’”

A nurse broke the news that the fanfare was for TomKat, although the former Calvin Klein model herself has definitely kept us talking over the decades.
