Last night, Saturday Night Live returned for its 49th season with the inevitable: a sketch about the rumored romance between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. But unexpectedly, the duo also popped up in the flesh for surprise cameos on the show.

The first sketch of the night addressed the relationship between the global pop icon and NFL star, with Kenan Thompson playing Fox NFL anchor Curt Menefee, who grows increasingly frustrated as his co-anchors ignore football to fixate on Swift. As frenzied Swifties, they debate fan theories, compare concert experiences, and even mention Swift's past relationships with the 1975's Matty Healy and Joe Alwyn.

When Menefee refers to bad blood between two NFL teams and his co-anchors respond by chorusing Swift's "Bad Blood" from her album 1989, he reaches a breaking point.

"You know what?" Thompson as Menefee says. "I'm done. When we get back, we're going to speak to someone who actually wants to talk football."

The camera then cuts to none other than Kelce, who delivers his sole line: "Yes, please."

Swift made her own blink-and-you-miss-it appearance later in the episode, introducing a second song from the night's musical performer, Ice Spice. Earlier this year, the duo collaborated on a remix of Swift's hit single, "Karma."

While Swift and Kelce did not show up on screen together, they were later photographed holding hands in New York City after hitting up the episode's after-party.

Months ago, after attending Swift's Eras Tour concert in Kansas City, Kelce revealed that he made the "Cruel Summer" singer a friendship bracelet with his number on it but was disappointed he didn't get the chance to give it to her. Though they didn't cross paths that night, he later said he invited her to see him "rock the stage at Arrowhead [Stadium]." Since then, their rumored romance has been stealing the spotlight at games for the Kansas City Chiefs.

On the subject of their relationship, Swift has been silent, while Kelce vaguely addressed the rumors on a September episode of his New Heights podcast, co-hosted by his brother and fellow NFL player Jason.

"I know that I brought all this attention to me. I'm the one that did the whole friendship bracelet thing and told everybody how butthurt I was that I didn't get to meet Taylor," he said. "You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take, baby. What's real is that it is my personal life. I want to respect both of our lives."

He added, "So, everything moving forward, I think me talking about sports and saying 'alright now' will have to be kind of where I keep it."

In an episode recorded a month later, Kelce expressed his opinion that the NFL is "overdoing it" with coverage of Swift attending his football games.

"You show [celebrities] once, let them know they're there, and after touchdowns you get a little clip, but it can't be overboard with it," he said. "People are there to watch the game, right?"
