Fans are counting down the seconds until Taylor Swift releases her highly anticipated studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, out April 19.
Announced at the 2024 Grammys back in February, Swift surprised everyone with the project during her acceptance speech for Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights. “I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years,” Swift said at the Grammys, “which is that my brand new album comes out on April 19. It’s called The Torture Poets Department. I’m gonna go and post the cover. Right now, backstage. Thank you.”
During the rollout, Swift has announced several variants of the album like she’s previously done for some of her other albums. The exclusive editions include “The Black Dog,” “The Manuscript,” “The Bolter,” and “The Albatross.” Each edition of The Tortured Poets Department features a specific bonus song, in addition to a track list that sees features from Post Malone to Florence + the Machine.
“Tortured Poets is an album,” Swift previously explained at her February concert in Melbourne, Australia. “I think more than any of my albums that I’ve ever made, I needed to make it. It was really a lifeline for me. Just the things I was going through and the things I was writing about. It kind of reminded me of why songwriting was something that actually gets me through my life.”
Aside from a cassette tape that’s currently unavailable, Swifties can find the album available to pre-order on Swift’s site ahead of the release day. Swift has also dropped several of the exclusive editions on Target, including CDs and a “Phantom Clear” vinyl LP. In addition to Amazon and Walmart, fans can also pick up Tortured Poets “The Manuscript” vinyl on her site, which comes with a 24-page jacket, replicas of the singer-songwriter’s handwritten lyrics, and “never-before-seen photos,” per the description on her shop. Last but not least, you can also buy the digital edition of Tortured Poets.
