Taylor Swift, SZA, and Doja Cat will all have multiple chances to add a few more Moonmen to their trophy cases at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards.

Swift led all nominees this year with eight, while SZA picked up six, and Doja Cat earned five, as did Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo, and Sam Smith. All of these artists will compete in the Video of the Year category, which comprises: Doja Cat’s “Attention,” Cyrus’ “Flowers,” Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl,” Rodrigo’s “vampire,” Smith and Petras’ “Unholy,” SZA’s “Kill Bill,” and Swift’s “Anti-Hero.”

Several of those tracks are also up for another top VMA prize, Song of the Year: Cyrus’ “Flowers,” Rodrigo’s “Vampire,” Smith and Petras’ “Unholy,” SZA’s “Kill Bill,” and Swift’s “Anti-Hero”; they’ll also compete against Steve Lacy’s “Bad Habit” and Rema and Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down.” Swift, Doja Cat, and Minaj are also nominated for Artist of the Year, where they’ll compete against Karol G, Shakira, and Beyoncé.

The 2023 VMAs will feature a slew of first-time nominees, among them acts like Petras, Metro Boomin, Boygenius, Fletcher, Rema, Arya Starr, Burna Boy, and Davido (the last four are all nominated in the new Best Afrobeats genre category). Of course, several of these first-timers will compete for the VMA’s Best New Artist category, which boasts GloRilla, Ice Spice, Kaliii, Peso Pluma, PinkPantheress, and Reneé Rapp.

Swift, in particular, has the chance to make some VMA history this year. Last year, she became the first artist to win Video of the Year three times, and now she has a chance to add to that record-setting tally. And, if she really cleans up this year, she has the chance to become one of the most-awarded artist in VMA history: Swift currently has 14 VMAs, just behind Beyoncé with 16 and Madonna with 20.

The 2023 VMAs are scheduled to take place on Sept. 12, airing live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Voting for the VMAs also opens today, with most categories closing on Sept. 1 (voting for Best New Artist will remain open into the show itself). A full list of nominees is below.
