The two have grown closer amid Turner's divorce from Joe Jonas, but their friendship goes way back

Taylor Swift and Sophie Turner are thick as thieves.

Recently, the “Blank Space” singer and Game of Thrones actress turned heads as they stepped out for a girls’ night in New York City.

Though their recent outings (which come after Joe Jonas filed for divorce from Turner earlier this month after four years of marriage) have made headlines, the two go way back.

Over the years, the ladies have shown their support for each other on social media and at various events. Notably, Turner praised Swift’s Fearless (Taylor’s Version) track, “Mr. Perfectly Fine,” which was written about the singer’s previous relationship with Jonas.

From gushing about each other in interviews to grabbing dinner together, here’s a timeline of their friendship through the years.

February 21, 2018: Sophie Turner rings in her 22nd birthday with a Taylor Swift song

Turner showed her Swiftie cred early when she rang in her 22nd birthday by lip-syncing to Swift’s hit track “22” from her Red album on her Instagram Story.

May 23, 2019: Taylor Swift and Sophie Turner appear on The Graham Norton Show together

Shortly after Turner tied the knot with Jonas, she and Swift came face to face as they did a joint interview together on The Graham Norton Show in 2019. The two showed there was no "Bad Blood" between them despite Turner being newly married to Swift's ex by greeting each other with a big hug on stage.

Swift, who was there to promote her Lover album, later gushed about Turner and the Dark Phoenix cast on Instagram, writing, “Feeling pretty lucky that I got to be a guest on the same night as @sophiet, Michael Fassbender, @Jessicachastain and @Jamesmcavoyrealdeal – They were all so sweet, now I want to just walk around yelling GO SEE DARK PHOENIX.”

June 5, 2019: Sophie Turner talks about fangirling over Taylor Swift

While promoting Dark Phoenix, Turner was asked about her cute interaction with Swift on The Graham Norton Show and how she felt about the “Lover” singer "fangirling" over her.

“She’s a really sweet girl. We’ve met a couple of times before,” she told Extra on the red carpet. “We’re friends. She definitely wasn’t fangirling over me. I fangirl over her.”

August 16, 2019: Sophie Turner wears the same dress Taylor Swift previously wore

Swift and Turner had a bit of a twinning moment when the latter stepped out for Jonas‘ James Bond-themed 30th birthday bash in a black dress. The same Alexandre Vauthier gown was previously worn by Swift at the 2016 Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty.

August 26, 2019: Sophie Turner cheers on Taylor Swift at the VMAs

Though they didn’t pose for any photos together at the 2019 MTV VMAs, Jonas and Turner were seen cheering for Swift as she took home Video of the Year.

July 24, 2020: Taylor Swift insinuates that she sent Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner's baby a present

With the release of Folklore, fans believed that the song "Invisible String" included a reference to Jonas and Turner, who were expecting their first child at the time.

"Cold was the steel of my axe to grind / For the boys who broke my heart / Now I send their babies presents," sings Swift on the song.

In her Disney+ movie folklore: the long pond studio sessions, Swift confirmed to her collaborator Aaron Dessner that the line referred to something real that happened in her life: “I remember I wrote it right after I sent an ex a baby gift ... I was just like, ‘Man, life is great. This is a full signifier that life is great.’”

Though she didn't name the ex, some fans noted that Jonas and Turner's daughter Willa was born around the time Folklore was released.

April 7, 2021: Sophie Turner posts about Taylor Swift’s song “Mr. Perfectly Fine”

Though she was on good terms with Jonas at the time, that didn’t stop Swift from releasing a fiery track about their split that had been cut from the original edition of Fearless entitled "Mr. Perfectly Fine."

Turner seemed to confirm the track was about Jonas as she hilariously reposted the song on social media, writing, "It's not NOT a bop." Swift's response to the Game of Thrones star? "Forever bending the knee to the 👑 of the north."

November 12, 2021: Taylor Swift sends Sophie Turner a Red care package

As Swift released her re-recorded Red album, she sent a number of celebrity friends care packages, including Turner. The actress posted a cute selfie on her Instagram Story, in which she donned Swift’s Red ring and iconic red scarf.

November 13, 2021: Sophie Turner supports Taylor Swift at SNL

When Swift performed on SNL in 2021, she got support from a handful of her celebrity friends. Of the group of people in attendance that night, Jonas and Turner were spotted entering Studio 8H ahead of her episode.

August 2022: Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner reveal their favorite Taylor Swift albums

During a TikTok Live, Jonas and Turner answered some fan questions, including revealing their favorite Taylor Swift album. "1989, hands down. The best," Turner replied.

"Although, Reputation was inspired by, or partly inspired by, Sansa and Arya Stark. Did you know that?" Turner continued, referencing her Game of Thrones character and that of pal Maisie Williams.

"That's pretty cool," the Jonas Brother singer replied. "And 1989 is a great album. Bangers. Bangers!"

August 12, 2023: Sophie Turner wears “Mr. Perfectly Fine” bracelet to Jonas Brothers concert

While attending the Jonas Brothers concert at Yankee Stadium, Turner proudly sported a number of friendship bracelets, including one that read “Mr. Perfectly Fine" — a reference to the track Swift penned about Jonas.

September 19, 2023: Taylor Swift and Sophie Turner step out in N.Y.C. together

Swift and Turner stepped out in N.Y.C. together for a girls’ night, just weeks after Jonas filed for divorce from Turner. The Game of Thrones alum was pictured linking arms with Swift as they headed to Temple Bar on Lafayette Street after dining at a restaurant.

September 28, 2023: A source tells PEOPLE that Sophie Turner is staying at Taylor Swift's apartment amid her divorce from Joe Jonas

Amid her divorce from Jonas, sources confirmed to PEOPLE that Turner was staying at Swift's apartment in N.Y.C. alongside her two daughters.

“Sophie is doing OK. She is happy to be back with her girls," a source close to Turner tells PEOPLE of the mom of two. "Working in Europe was very hard for her. She missed her girls."

"Taylor has opened her home to Sophie," the source continued. "Sophie is welcome there any time. Taylor continues to be a great friend."

September 30, 2023: Sophie Turner grabs dinner in N.Y.C. with Taylor Swift and her friends

On Sept. 30, Swift and Turner stepped out for another dinner in N.Y.C. — this time with a big group of Swift's celebrity friends.

The Grammy winner was photographed arriving with Turner, Lively and her older sister Robyn to the Italian restaurant Emilio’s Ballato on Sept. 30. They were also joined by Brittany Mahomes — whose husband Patrick Mahomes plays for the Kansas City Chiefs alongside Swift's rumored boyfriend Travis Kelce — for the outing.

The group sat in a back room of the restaurant for over four hours, with Brittany staying till 1 a.m., while Swift left shortly after around 1:30 a.m.

October 1, 2023: Sophie Turner attends Kansas City Chiefs game with Taylor Swift

As Swift cheered on Travis Kelce during the Kansas City Chiefs game on Oct. 1, she had a handful of celebrity friends by her side, including Turner. The actress was seen standing alongside Swift as they watched the game from a box at MetLife Stadium.
