Taylor Sharing Some Devastating News
Swift revealed the news in an interview with Variety:
"While she was going through treatment, they found a brain tumor. And the symptoms of what a person goes through when they have a brain tumor is nothing like what we've ever been through with her cancer before. So it's just been a really hard time for us as a family."
Andrea Swift Diagnosed With Breast Cancer In 2015
In 2015, Swift revealed on Tumblr that her mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer, saying, "this is something my family and I thought you should know about now."
"For Christmas this year, I asked my mom that one of her gifts to me be her going to the doctor to get screened for any health issues, just to ease some worries of mine.
She agreed, and went in to get checked. There were no red flags and she felt perfectly fine, but she did it just to get me and my brother off her case about it."
'The Results Came In'
Her statement in 2015 continued:
"The results came in, and I’m saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer. She's got an important battle to fight. Thank you for caring about my family so much that she would want me to share this information with you. I hope and pray that you never get news like this."
Swift: Get Yourself Checked
Swift's message on Tumblr went on, adding that the news can serve as an important reminder for others to have regular medical screenings.
"I'd like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know. She wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they've got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle...Or peace of mind in knowing that they're healthy and there's nothing to worry about....
She's got an important battle to fight."
In March 2019, Andrea Swift's cancer came back. Taylor has cut back on her "Lover" tour to play only select festivals in America and Europe. She's making just four stops in America.
Swift told Variety:
"I mean, we don't know what is going to happen. We don't know what treatment we're going to choose. It just was the decision to make at the time, for right now, for what's going on."
Her Mom Is Her 'Guiding Force'
Clearly this is a serious issue for Taylor and her family.
"Everyone loves their mom; everyone's got an important mom. But for me, she's really the guiding force. Almost every decision I make, I talk to her about it first. So obviously, it was a really big deal to ever speak about her illness."
