"Tortured poets, meet your colleagues from down the hall, the dead poets," Taylor Swift wrote on Instagram on Friday, introducing the first music video off her new album. In the visual representation of her song "Fortnight," Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles, who famously starred in the 1989 classic film Dead Poets Society as Todd Anderson and Knox Overstreet, appear a doctors alongside Swift and her collaborator Post Malone.

"Todd” & “Knox” from DEAD POETS SOCIETY are now PhDs in THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT. It’s quite an honor. Thank you @taylorswift for the opportunity to be in the music video for your song FORTNIGHT feat. @postmalone," Hawke wrote on Instagram, ending with movie's rallying cry, "carpe diem!"

For his part, Charles posted several times about the experience on social media, sharing:

"Little debrief about yesterday: I don’t like keeping secrets so that was hard. I didn’t even tell my kids until the other day! Here’s a couple of tortured old poets about to board an early flight to be pop stars for a day. Been through a lot with this dude over the years, but safe to say this was a most memorable day. We were treated with such class by Taylor and her crew from beginning to end. What I’ll remember most was the laughter. There was a lot of it. Like we were 17 all over again."

He also noted, "I’ve admired Taylor for a long time, but meeting her in person took my fandom to a whole new level. Genuine, kind, approachable, and just an all around stellar human being - Not to mention a kick ass director to boot!"

This is hardly the first time the pair have publicly reunited in the years since Dead Poet's Society, the much-loved coming-of-age film about a boys boarding school, which also starred Robert Sean Leonard as the ill-fated Neil Perry and Robin Williams as the maverick teacher John Keating. Hawke and Charles were photographed together on the SAG-AFTRA picket line outside the HBO building in October 2023, and have also been seen sitting court-side, watching the Knicks play.

Dead Poets Society turns 35 this year; ten years ago on the film's 25th anniversary, Charles spoke about the project's timeless appeal. "What resonates with people is what [Keating] stood for," he said. "When it comes to the end, not thinking that you hadn’t really lived."
