Taylor Swift 'Really Related' To The Controversial 'Game of Thrones' Finale

Swift Is A Huge 'Thrones' Fan

Like so many people, Taylor Swift is a huge Game of Thrones fan. Stars: they're just like us! Swift explained that she related to one character in particular, especially in the final season: Daenerys Targaryen. She told Rolling Stone:

"Look at the Game of Thrones finale. I specifically really related to Daenerys’ storyline because for me it portrayed that it is a lot easier for a woman to attain power than to maintain it."

Her song, "The Man," from her latest album Lover was partially written with the fallen queen in mind.

"I thought maybe they’re trying to portray her climbing the ladder to the top was a lot easier than maintaining it, because, for me, the times when I felt like I was going insane was when I was trying to maintain my career in the same way that I ascended."

The Inspiration For 'reputation'

This wasn't the first time that Swift has used Game of Thrones references in her work, either. During the reputation era, Swift's song "Look What You Made Me Do" featured the lyric "I’ve got a list of names and yours is in red underlined." Swift told EW that this was an explicit nod to Arya Stark's infamous kill list.

What Did She Think Of Season 8?

So what did Swift think of the controversial final season? Well, she understands that we probably weren't going to be happy with anything the Game of Thrones team cooked up.

"So, clinically our brain responds to our favorite show ending the same way we feel when a breakup occurs. I read that. There’s no good way for it to end. No matter what would have happened in that finale, people still would have been really upset because of the fact that it’s over."
