Spotify has revealed its annual Wrapped campaign for 2023, announcing the top-streamed artists, albums, songs and podcasts in addition to rolling out personalized stats for users on the platform.

Taylor Swift leads the pack as Spotify’s most-streamed global artist, unseating Bad Bunny who held the crown for the past three years. Listeners helped Swift surpass 26.1 billion streams worldwide since the top of the year, and in the U.S., she also netted out as the most-streamed musician in 2023 with Drake, Morgan Wallen, the Weeknd and Bad Bunny lined up behind her. (It’s also worth noting that her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s podcast, “New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce,” was the top-streamed global sports podcast.)

More from Variety

To celebrate Swift’s latest milestone, Spotify unveiled 21 puzzle pieces on billboards around the globe, including São Paulo and Jakarta, teasing her accomplishment in the 48-hour lead-up to Wrapped’s launch. The easter eggs culminated in a video that nods to touchstones in the Swift-verse, including dice and her signature red lips. Additionally, when fans stream her music on the platform, the progress bar will change colors to reflect the corresponding era color and the progress button will turn into a sparkle. Some of Swift’s biggest fans will also receive a thank you message from her, as well as a special share card.

Since Jan. 1, Spotify has had over 574 million people listen globally. On a worldwide scale, Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” was the most-streamed song of the year with 1.6 billion listens, while Bad Bunny’s “Un Verano Sin Ti” makes its second-consecutive annual entry atop the most-streamed album worldwide. In the podcast world, “The Joe Rogan Experience” was the most popular (as it has been for the past few years), with “Call Her Daddy,” “Huberman Lab,” “Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlain” and “On Purpose with Jay Shetty” behind it.

Starting on Wednesday, eligible Spotify users will be access their 2023 Wrapped experience on the mobile app, as well on desktop or at spotify.com/wrapped.

This year’s Wrapped will include standard features that access data and show users their individualized top artists, genres, songs, podcasts and minutes listened. Spotify will also integrate new elements including:

  • New data stories bringing you to the heart of their listening: In addition to your top artists, genres, songs, podcasts and minutes listened, we’re adding a few new features to look out for.

    • Me in 2023 celebrates a streaming habit that defined your listening this year. The experience will reveal one of 12 listening characters that best describes the way you listened on Spotify this year – examples include the Shapeshifter (you’re quick to move from one artist to the next), the Luminary (you play light, upbeat music more than others), or the Alchemist (you create your own playlists more than others do).

    • Sound Town matches you to a city based on your listening and shared artist affinity. Listening habits are shared in surprising ways across communities around the world, and 2023 Wrapped celebrates that.

  • Wrapped fan-favorites appear in a refreshed way users haven’t seen before:

    • Top 5 Genres story shows you how your top five music genres stacked up with a new sandwich-inspired design.

    • Top 5 Artists lets you see the month your listening peaked for each artist – painting a fuller picture of your entire year and all the moments that made it.

    • You will also get to hear from one of your top artists directly within your personalized Wrapped via Your Artist Messages. You can then visit the Wrapped feed for video messages from more than 40,000 artists including Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, Peso Pluma, NewJeans, SZA, KAROL G, Dolly Parton and more.

  • Wrapped Feed: Right on your Spotify Home screen, the Wrapped feed is the one-stop shop for all things Wrapped, including the best of editorial playlists, merch from your top artists, concerts near you, and more.

  • Bringing AI DJ and Blend to the Wrapped experience: You’ll also see Wrapped come to life through some of our favorite product features like DJ and Blend.

    • Spotify’s AI DJ will guide listeners through their personalized Wrapped – serving up the music you loved this year and sharing commentary about some of your favorite artists, genres, songs and more. The experience will be available for the first week after Wrapped launches.

    • This year, you can invite your friends to create a Blend and tap the ‘2023 Wrapped Top Songs’ filter to combine all of your top songs from this year into one shared playlist.

Spotify also launched its Wrapped creator experience for podcasters and artists. Users can access individualized Wrapped microsites to explore how listeners interacted with them this year. The feature is available on Spotify for Artists and Spotify for Podcasters.
