Swift has held "Secret Sessions" for hardcore fans to promote past albums, usually selected through social media. This one took place Aug. 2 in London, according to multiple fan posts and photos. The pop star treated fans to snacks, "Lover" merchandise, an exclusive listen to the album and total bragging rights over other Swifties until Aug. 23, when the album is officially released.
There was a catch, though: Attendees were asked to keep info about the session under wraps. Fans on social media shared that Swift asked them not to reveal song names, lyrics or collaborators, as well as any direct quotes from the pop star.
That didn't stop Swifties from raving — in a more generic way — about the album and about the singer's hospitality.
The album was AMAZING," wrote Reddit user Nadianiffi. "So many amazing bops and also some true tearjerkers (archer who?????) I believe there’s something for everyone on that album. There’s some really stripped down stuff and some hardcore bops."
Another "Secret Session" attendee, Reddit user 13deviant13, gave the album a "9/10 for Taylor's standards," calling some songs "too mainstream" but predicting "Lover" will be an Album of the Year-"type of an album."
"The album vibe definitely matches the color of the album cover," the user continued. "It has '1989' feels, 'Speak Now' lyrics, 'Fearless' hints and none of (Swift's most recent album, 'reputation')."
Swift posted a photo of multicolored colorful heart-shaped Rice Krispies treats on Instagram, which fans confirmed were part of the secret session. She also gave out pastel M&Ms with "Lover" printed on them, Reddit user Beamr772 shared in a photo.
