Taylor Swift Fans Mourn the Death of 9-Year-Old Cancer Patient Who Received '22' Hat

Swifties are mourning the loss of Scarlett Oliver, a 9-year-old fan whose wish to receive Taylor Swift's signed "22" hat during one of her Sydney, Australia, concerts came true in a touching moment.

Scarlett died from cancer in April after being diagnosed with a rare high-grade glioma tumor. Her father, Paul, announced the sad news on his wife Natalie's Instagram, sharing photos of his daughter and writing, "My Angel, so strong, so brave, so beautiful ❤️. Nothing will ever be the same again. Don’t forget me and please find a way to let me know you are ok."

The message concluded, "Goodnight baby, I love you - Dad 😢 It’s just not fair 💔."

Since hearing the news, many have shared tributes and words of support, with fellow Swifties touched by Scarlett writing notes like, "Scarlett, you were bigger than the whole sky 🤍 fly high sweet angel 🪽."

Another fan wrote, "How lucky Taylor Swift was to have met YOU beautiful Scarlett🤍 May you continue to guide your family, in their hearts, and in all the little ways you show them you’re still here, all around us. 💕."

Early this year, ahead of Swift's February shows in Sydney, Scarlett's family reached out asking for fans' help to grant her wish to receive the "22" hat at the concert.

At the time, her stepmother Natalie noted that they asked the Make a Wish Foundation if Scarlett could meet Swift as her wish, but the family was told it wasn't possible. Luckily, fans heard Scarlett's wish and came through, resulting in the viral moment when Scarlett received the "22" hat and an emotional hug from Swift.

Soon after the concert, the family shared a video showing the moment on Instagram, with Scarlett watching Swift with wide eyes as she came up to her and gifted the hat, writing, "@taylorswift you are AMAZING!! Thank you so much for making Scarlett’s dream come true!! To everyone who shared her story to help us make this happen we are beyond greatful!!!"
