Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ Sets Disney+ Streaming Date — with 5 Songs Not Shown in Theaters

“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” has found its exclusive streaming home. As announced by Disney CEO Bob Iger during the February 7 Q1 2024 earnings call, the recently crowned four-time Album of the Year Grammy winner’s wildly popular concert performance movie will stream exclusively on Disney+ beginning March 15. Iger also shared with investors and other listeners on the call that the Disney+ premiere will include five songs not shown in theaters.

Filming on “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” took place in August 2023 across her summer shows at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, under a SAG-AFTRA agreement amid the strike. The Sam Wrench-directed film, which opened theatrically on October 13, has so far grossed $262 million globally in a co-distribution deal held by AMC Theatres and Cinemark Theatres. On December 13 last year, Swift made the concert film (with added songs “Wildest Dreams,” “The Archer,” and “Long Live” not shown in theaters) available on PVOD platforms, where you can still rent the film for just under $20. (IndieWire understands “The Eras Tour” will still be available for purchase on platforms like iTunes, Vudu, Apple TV, and more concurrently.) Now, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” will be part of the Disney+ package to lure new subscribers and potentially secure lagging legacy patrons (as announced Wednesday, Disney+ lost 1 million subscribers since its October 2023 price hike). Pricing is currently tiered at $7.99 month (including ads), or $13.99/month or $139.99/year without ads and with content available to download on the go at that level.

Swift has been part of the Disney+ family for a while: Most recently, “folklore: the long pond studio sessions,” which was an intimate concert performance in studio, dropped in 2020 on the platform, where fans can still watch it today.

“The Eras Tour” was shot across six Los Angeles shows, with the tracks “Our Song” and “You’re On Your Own Kid” added for the theatrical release. As for good guesses for what songs will be added to the Disney+ version, smart bets on “No Body, No Crime,” which Swift wrote and performed with HAIM for the fall 2020 album “evermore.” Iger confirmed “Cardigan,” the lead single off the summer 2020 album “folklore.” That track has so far eluded theatrical and streaming versions of “The Eras Tour” but has been a regular staple of the tour itself, which is ongoing and currently taking place in Tokyo, Japan through February 10. After the Super Bowl LVIII February 11, where all eyes are on Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce as the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, Swift will head to Australia with dates in Melbourne and Sydney. The tour is currently set to end December 8 in Vancouver.

At the Grammys on February 4, Swift, while accepting the prize for Best Pop Vocal Album for “Midnights,” revealed that her new album “The Tortured Poets Department” will release April 19. She later in the evening won Album of the Year for the 2023 release, making her the only artist in history to win the prize four times.
