Taylor Swift Calls Swifties to Action on National Voter Registration Day

A week ago, Taylor Swift brought in a history-making haul of trophies at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. Among the categories that she dominated, many of them were fan-voted, allowing her to rack up votes from her devoted Swifties. Now, the singer is urging them to bring that same energy to the actual polls during future elections.
“I’ve been lucky to see so many of you guys at my U.S. shows recently,” Swift wrote in a recent Instagram Story. “I’ve heard you raise your voices, and I know how powerful they are. Make sure you’re ready to use them in our elections this year!”

The singer shared a voter registration link with her more than 270 million followers on the social platform. With the 2024 presidential election less than a year away, Swift is starting the conversation early. Swifties can even put their organization skills to good use with a twist, like making Eras tour-themed friendship bracelets to wear to the polls.
Swift is the latest pop star to join the growing list of artists using their massive stan platforms to boost voter registration. Last year, the non-profit voter registration organization HeadCount partnered with dozens of artists to incentivize pop fans to register to vote and check their registration status. Through campaigns with Harry Styles, Ariana Grande, Megan Thee Stallion, Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, Paramore, and more, the organization registered 150,000 voters.
“Lots of artists want to get their fans out to vote, but don’t want to get into the partisan divide,” HeadCount’s co-founder and executive director Andy Bernstein told Variety last year. “But it’s dangerous to assume that democracy will prevail — there are real systemic challenges to how elections work. The whole system is in jeopardy — fair elections take effort.”
