Taylor Lautner Kidnaps His Brother and Flees His Mother in Exclusive 'Run the Tide' Trailer

Taylor Lautner has kept a relatively low profile lately, appearing in supporting parts in two less-than-stellar Adam Sandler movies (Grown Ups 2 and The Ridiculous Six). The upcoming thriller Run the Tide brings Lautner back into more mature fare in a lead role. Get your first look at its new trailer above, a Yahoo Movies exclusive.

In the film, directed by Soham Mehta, Lautner is Reymund Hightower, a young man dedicated to raising his younger brother (Nicos Christou) after his mother, Lola (Constance Zimmer), is convicted on drug charges and sentenced to prison. After six years away, Lola returns and sets about trying to rebuild her family. That plan, though, is upended by Reymund, who — still bitter about his mom’s abandonment and determined to remain the primary role model in his sibling’s life — kidnaps his brother and sets off on a trek to the California coast, with both Lola and her ex-husband (Kenny Johnson) in pursuit.

While this premiere trailer spells out most of the story’s narrative beats, Run the Tide looks to give Lautner an opportunity to shoulder a film’s dramatic load, and put a little more distance between his future and his Twilight-fostered teen-heartthrob past. Whether he manages to pull off that feat will become clear when the film arrives in theaters on Dec. 2.
