Taylor Goldsmith is marrying Mandy Moore: 5 things to know about the Dawes musician

Mandy Moore is getting married!

The This Is Us star is officially engaged to musician Taylor Goldsmith, frontman of the indie rock band Dawes. The couple has been dating for two years, following Moore’s split from her husband of six years, singer-songwriter Ryan Adams.

Moore’s fans will recognize Goldsmith from their adorable photos together that she’s shared on Instagram, but here are five fun facts about Goldsmith and the couple.

Happy Birthday to my very favorite person. You are the best of the best, T. ????????????

1. The pair live together and are renovating a new home

Moore and Goldsmith currently share a temporary home while they are renovating a midcentury house near Los Angeles. The digs will mark a new pad for Moore, who sold her home of 14 years in 2016, following her split from Adams.

“I feel like the last year of my life has really been such a cleansing period and yeah, the house is totally symbolic of where I’m lucky enough to find myself at this point in my life, at 33,” the actress told PEOPLE in July. “I’m ready to start over, start from scratch. I’m so enthusiastic about embracing that. I can’t wait. It’s the best feeling.”

Moore told PEOPLE over the summer that she was looking forward to blending her things with Goldsmith’s and planning several spaces in the new house for his collections.

“He has a ton of books and records, so we made sure in the design of the house that we’re doing a lot of built-ins and bookshelves,” she explained. “I think he’s very sentimental about his stuff and I’m not, so I don’t understand that as much, but I’m very compassionate about it and sympathetic.”

2. Goldsmith’s band Dawes once opened for Bob Dylan

On the indie rock scene since 2009, Dawes went on tour to promote their third studio album Stories Don’t End during the summer of 2013. They’d previously worked with songwriters including John Fogerty and Jackson Browne, but this summer tour offered them a brush with one of music’s biggest icons, when they opened for Bob Dylan.

“I feel like we’re very lucky in the sense that Dawes can be the kind of band that plays with Bright Eyes or M. Ward but that also plays with Bob Dylan. I don’t know if there are a lot of bands of guys in their twenties that can do that,” Goldsmith told Esquire in 2013. “Some of the older folks at the Dylan shows said they expected to not like us: they made it very clear. But then they’d come up to us afterward and say, ‘I was expecting you to sound like what music sounds like from musicians your age, which is something I don’t like, but I still liked you.'”

3. The two “announced” their relationship via Instagram

In 2004, Moore told PEOPLE, “I’ve learned that I am just not going to talk about my personal life anymore. You have to learn that lesson sometime” and she’s largely stuck to that policy.

It should come as no surprise, then, that rather than make a formal announcement, she first hinted at dating Goldsmith via Instagram, sharing a photo of him playing Scrabble in July 2015.

Moore never really confirmed they were dating throughout the year, but she continued to share photos of their developing relationship, including a New Year’s Eve jam session between the two singers and photos of them taking a winter holiday together in Maine.

She’s continued to share their relationship via social media with a photo them exploring slot canyons earlier this July and an anniversary photo celebrating their two years together.

Similarly, Goldsmith has shared photos of Moore on his band’s Instagram account, including a shot of him blowing out his birthday candles with his “favorite person in the world.”

4. Moore is eager to have children with Goldsmith

“It’s about that time in my life,” Moore told PEOPLE last September. “I’m definitely ready.”

Moore told the magazine that playing a pregnant woman on This Is Us had her thinking about when she’d like to have her own children.

“There is something fundamentally biological about [becoming a mother],” Moore told PEOPLE exclusively. “Doing the show and holding the babies, I feel it on my insides. It definitely made my ovaries start kicking!”

So though wedding bells are on the horizon for the couple, it looks like a baby won’t be far behind if Moore has anything to say about it.

5. Goldsmith made his TV debut on another heartfelt family drama

While Moore has been tugging at our heartstrings as Rebecca Pearson on This Is Us since it debuted in Sept. 2016, Goldsmith also had a small part to play on another beloved NBC family drama.

Goldsmith’s band, Dawes, appeared on a 2012 episode of Parenthood, in which they played prospective clients of Adam (Peter Krause) and Crosby (Dax Shepard).

This Is Us has often drawn comparisons to that series, and for many, it has filled the TV void of a heartfelt, tear-jerking family drama. If nothing else, both shows make frequent use of popular music and acoustic tunes to help underscore dramatic moments.

Given that, and the fact that Rebecca is a singer in a band, is it too much to hope that Goldsmith might make a cameo on This Is Us at some later date?
