Tatum O’Neal Wishes Dad Ryan a Happy Valentine’s Day as He Continues to Suffer from Poor Health

Tatum O’Neal is sending her father, Ryan, a special message on Valentine’s Day.

The 55-year-old actress shared a sweet photo of herself and the actor, 77, laughing on Thursday in what she described as “better times.”

“Dear Daddy, Happy St. Valentine’s Day! ?? I found a picture of us in better times,” she wrote in the caption. “I want to tell you that I am me because of you, and I mean all my good qualities.”

She continued, “The way I have taught my children the joy of irony and how to love. The ability to laugh ourselves. Love of movies. I wish things could be different that I could have made choices you could be more proud of. I have to live with myself and take pride in the woman I am today for better or worse.”

“All I wanted, was for you to feel my love for you and know there is no preexisting reasons except that I love you!!” O’Neal added. “Just know that! Baby Mozart at your feet. Love your daughter 🥰😘👫”

Her photo comes just two days after she shared a now-deleted snapshot of her father receiving treatment for his heart.

“With my legendary dad !! Trying to get his heart fixed up!! 💔💔💘💖💟,” the Paper Moon star wrote in the caption.

In 2004, Tatum detailed her dysfunctional relationship with her father in her searing autobiography A Paper Life. After a bitter 20-year estrangement, O’Neal told PEOPLE Farrah Fawcett’s death in 2009 played “a very big role” in their reconciliation.

“She brought us back together,” Tatum said in 2010. She also revealed it was her father who extended the olive branch.

“He told me he’s sorry. He’s all I have in terms of family, and I needed him in my life,” she shared at the time. “My dad was absolutely everything to me.”
