Task force seizes cocaine, fentanyl, $1M in cash in Plain Township raid

PLAIN TWP − A local law enforcement task force seized a large amount of cocaine, fentanyl and marijuana along with $1 million in cash at a home near Meyers Lake and arrested a man on drug trafficking charges, Canton Police said.

Members of the FBI's Stark County Safe Streets Task Force on Friday executed a search warrant authorized by a federal court in the 1900 block of Lakeside Avenue NW, according to a Canton Police statement.

Police say officers found six kilograms of cocaine, two kilograms of fentanyl, 50 pounds of marijuana, six handguns, $1 million in U.S. currency and jewelry valued at about $100,000.

A 38-year-old man was booked into the Stark County Jail. He faces state felony charges of cocaine trafficking, fentanyl trafficking, cocaine possession, fentanyl possession and having weapons while under disability, Canton Police said. The criminal complaint was not yet available Saturday in Stark County's court case system.

In addition to Canton Police, in investigation also included the FBI, Stark County Sheriff's Office, Jackson Township Police, MEDWAY Drug Task Force and State of Ohio Adult Parole Authority, the statement said.

"I really value all of our partnership and collaborative efforts for the benefit of the Canton community," Canton Police Chief John Gabbard said in the statement.

Stark County Sheriff George Maier said, "This is yet another example of Stark County law enforcement successfully working together to contribute to a safer Stark County. We will continue to remain resilient and dedicated as we work to combat drug trafficking in our community."
