Tarek El Moussa and Heather Rae Young Celebrate First Christmas Together with His Kids

Tarek El Moussa and Heather Rae Young are celebrating their first Christmas together as a couple — and El Moussa’s two kids are very much included in the celebrations.

The Flip or Flop star, 38, shares Taylor Reese, 9, and Brayden James, 4, with ex-wife Christina Anstead, and the two will be splitting time with their kids over the holidays.

The real estate expert told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview that Taylor and Brayden will spend Christmas Eve with Christina and her husband, Ant Anstead, and then head to El Moussa’s for Christmas Day, to spend time with him and his new girlfriend, Heather Rae Young of Netflix’s Selling Sunset, 32.

“We’re still doing our own thing,” the father of two said of he and Christina’s co-parenting holiday arrangement. Christina and Ant recently celebrated their one year wedding anniversary, having tied the knot in a secret ceremony at their home in Newport Beach on December 22, 2018. Ant has two kids from a previous relationship, and he and Christina welcomed a son together in September.

El Moussa and Young were first spotted kissing on a boat in July, and confirmed their relationship with joint Instagram posts in August. Young has been a staple in El Moussa’s kids’ lives ever since — going to their sporting events, watching their school performances, and attending their birthday parties. Now, she’s working on creating special holiday traditions with them this Christmas.

One of the traditions she plans on initiating? Baking cookies with the kids — both vegan for her and non-vegan for El Moussa, whom she jokes is “about 73 percent” vegan.

“We had a lot of fun doing that a few months ago, so we’ll probably add that in as a Christmas tradition,” Young says.

“Our holiday tradition this year is pretty much going to be relaxing,” El Moussa tells PEOPLE. “It’s the time of year I go on hiatus from filming, so we actually get a break.”

In addition to sweet treats and relaxation, Young and El Moussa have also made Christmas special for the little ones by wearing matching Christmas pajamas, going Christmas shopping, decorating the house and even taking a Polar Express-themed train ride (dressed in said Christmas jammies!).

The foursome spent this past Sunday at the Polar Express event, joined by family and friends on a real life train ride through a magical Christmas experience based on the iconic holiday movie. Young and El Moussa both documented the day of fun on their Instagram Stories, showing off Brayden and Taylor’s golden tickets, dance moves and giggles with little friends.

“We’re out here in public wearing onesies,” El Moussa jokes, showing off his black and red checked one piece and Young’s full red suit.

When Christmas Day arrives, the Flip or Flop star says the group will do wintertime swimming and cooking, as well as “presents and all the family stuff.”

Young says she couldn’t help but give Taylor some gifts already: “I got her a few things and then I got excited and gave them to her,” she laughs. “There’s definitely still going to be some presents under the tree, though!”

Even though it’s early in their relationship, the two seem thrilled to be reaching new milestones and making new memories as a pair.

“We have the best time together. He’s my best friend and I love his family, so I’m really excited to spend [Christmas] with them,” Young said.

El Moussa agrees: “We’re super excited. These are all new experiences and it’s fun to share these experiences with someone new.”
