In a celebration of the timeless melodies and extraordinary life of a music icon, Titusville Playhouse is set to start 2024 with "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical." The show opens Friday, Jan. 12, for a run that extends through Feb. 18.

"Beautiful" takes us on a nostalgic journey through Carole King's life, chronicling her rise to stardom from a precocious young songwriter to a chart-topping star. The show weaves together a tapestry of King's iconic hits, from the early days of "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" to the anthemic "You've Got a Friend."

King, one of the most celebrated singers and songwriters of all time, has had a musical career spanning decades. She has had more than 400 songs recorded by over 1,000 artists, resulting in more than 100 hit singles. She has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, becoming the first person to be inducted separately as a songwriter and a performing artist.

"'Beautiful' is really about Carole’s early career, and centers around her life and marriage with Gerry Goffin and their writing partnership," said Titusville Playhouse's executive and artistic director, Steven J. Heron.

"The show goes to the success of 'Tapestry,' but you also hear and see many hits that everyone knows written by Carole King, yet performed by other artists."

In Titusville Playhouse's production, Kaitlyn Jackson steps into King's shoes. Heron praised Jackson's ability to capture King's essence both vocally and emotionally, saying those were qualities he looked for when casting the role.

"The most important thing for me in all casting is the voice," Heron said.

"Secondly, we focused on the vibe," he said. "I have seen [Carole King] on so many interviews and she is just a real person. Someone who you could meet on the street and say 'hey' to. I was looking for that unassuming quiet with the powerful stage presence and the voice."

The show isn't just a trip down memory lane; it's a celebration of resilience, friendship and an artist who left an indelible mark on the world of music. Heron believes the story will inspire audiences.

"The journey and life of Carole King is so amazing, and the obstacles she overcome," he said.

The heart of "Beautiful" lies in its ability to transcend generations. The music bridges the gap between those who grew up with the songs and a new audience discovering them for the first time. Fans of King's soulful tunes are in for a treat, and newcomers are in for a crash course in the soundtrack of a generation, including classics like "Natural Woman," "It's Too Late," and, of course, "Beautiful."

"The music is most assuredly going to be a huge hit with the audiences," Heron said. "I know I go home every night and can’t stop humming songs from the show. I think people will be surprised at the music at how great and timeless it is."

Heron takes pride in bringing the show to Brevard audiences.

"'Beautiful: The Carole King Musical' has not been performed in the Central Florida area except for Dr. Phillips and the national tour," he said. "We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to be one of the first theatres in the country to do the show and that is exciting in its own right."

"Getting to bring this legend of a show and a legend of a singer to Central Florida is an honor and privilege."

It's a musical journey you won't want to miss.
