Tanner Vance, Nettie Canty are Montgomery Biscuits High School Sports Athletes of the Week

Only one boys and one girls athlete can be named the Montgomery Biscuits High School Sports Athlete of the Week. Here are the winners for the week of March 18-24:

Prattville baseball's Tanner Vance and Pike Road soccer midfielder Nettie Canty have been voted Montgomery Biscuits High School Sports Athlete of the Week for boys and girls sports in the Montgomery area by a poll of our readers.

Vance edged out his Prattville teammate, Drew Jolley, in the boys' votes. With a 3-2 count in the bottom of the eighth inning, Vance doubled to right field to score Grant Williams in a 4-3 win against Oak Mountain. Vance hit 2-for-3 in the game, including the game-winning RBI double. He received 65.94% of the 52,501 votes cast in the boys' race.

Jolley hit 5-for-11 for the week with stats that included a double, four walks, four RBIs, a run scored and successfully stealing two bases on two attempts. He had a .600 on-base percentage and a .545 slugging percentage. The pitcher threw five innings in a win against Pell City.

Canty, who has committed to play college soccer starting in the fall at Valdosta State, scored four goals and made one assist in a match against LAMP, and scored four goals against Stanhope Elmore. She received 54.24% of the 32,056 votes cast in the girls' race. Another soccer player, Montgomery Catholic's Anna Russo, finished second in the girls' voting after her performances that included a hat trick when she scored three goals and made one assist in a 10-0 win against Dale County.
