Tamaqua Area student recognized for musical talents
TAMAQUA, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — In this week’s Here’s to You Kid segment, we are introducing you to a Tamaqua Area High School Senior who is being recognized for her musical talents. She is also very passionate about the environment.
The trumpet holds a special place in Brianna Snyder’s heart.
“I chose to play trumpet because it was something very, it’s something we play in my family my aunt played it and I wanted to play it,” Brianna said.
Brianna has been playing for about six years and has been recognized for her musical talents.
“This year I was selected for the Regent 5 honor band last year I was selected for district band I was also selected for district band this year and I’ve done county band for 3 years,” Brianna stated.
Brianna’s hard work and dedication to her craft paid off. It landed her a spot in the 2024 PMEA Region V Band Festival.
Holy Redeemer student recognized by non-profit
“I almost cried I remember freaking out in the hallway when I saw the addition results cause when I came back from district band last year it was my main goal for this year to make sure that I got in for the next year,” Brianna explained.
Brianna says while it can be challenging balancing school, band, and extracurricular activities she has a strong support system that helps her.
“My parents my community my band they all helped me get through it they encouraged me to do my best and they help me out a lot,” Brianna added.
She’s also involved in so much more outside of band including giving back to her community.
“I am a huge environmentalist I love doing things to help my community and my environment. So last year I organized my own cleanup by the grocery store on one of the rivers in town and we had maybe about 12 volunteers and we cleaned up the banks of the river,” Brianna continued.
Brianna also spearheaded her school’s environmental club adopting a road.
In her free time, she also works with the Schuylkill Headwaters Association.
After high school, Brianna will attend Stanford University, majoring in physics with a minor in earth systems. In Tamaqua
Brianna is also a tutor and says it’s just another one of the ways she loves to give back.
