It’s been four years since the sisters HAIM first captivated audiences with their unique cocktail of electro-tinged pop/rock, which — alongside their near-legendary live show — turned them from buzz band to arena vets (and Taylor Swift support act / #squad members) seemingly overnight.

The sister trio’s sophomore follow-up full-length LP Something To Tell You — set for July 7 via Columbia Records — has remained one of 2017’s most hotly anticipated releases. But to date fans have only had two early tastes of what’s to come, with advance cut “Right Now,” debuted via a one-take live session filmed by Paul Thomas Anderson, and follow-up second punch (and official first single) “Want You Back,” which topped the Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart.
Today, ahead of their second-ever performance on Saturday Night Live this weekend (May 13), HAIM reveal their “Takeover Tuesday” playlist exclusively via Billboard, and walk us through why the eclectic, poignant set is emblematic of the band itself. “We love this song because it has one of the funkiest bass lines EVER. It took Este a good week to figure out how to play it.”

“This song reminds us of driving in the car with our Mom on the way to school. It’s one of her favorite songs, and we know all the background vocals by heart.”
11) Leon Ware, “Why I Came To California“
“This song is kind of a wild card. The lyrics are so funny, and I love the way the duo trades off vocals.”
12) Yvonne Elliman, “If I Can’t Have You“
“It doesn’t matter what mood we’re in, this song is pretty much a go to in any situation. All three of us agree that this song is pretty much a perfectly crafted love song.”
13) Lauryn Hill, “Doo Wop (That Thing)“
“This whole record is a masterpiece, but if we had to pick one song off this record it would be this one. Also the video for this song IS EVERYTHING. The lyrics, the melody, all of it. So good.”
14) Prince, “Raspberry Beret“
“It’s especially hard to pick a Prince song we all agree is the best, but this song is one that we all listen to in the car and marvel at how good it is. We also spend a lot of time thinking about who this song could possibly be about.”
15) George Michael, “Father Figure”
“No words. This song is songwriting goals.”
