Takeoff, Migos Rapper, Shot Dead in Houston at 28

Takeoff, one-third of the popular rap group Migos, was fatally shot in Houston on Tuesday. He was 28.

The rapper, birth name Kirshnik Khari Ball, was at bowling alley 810 Billiards & Bowling Houston where he and Migos bandmate Quavo were reportedly playing dice around 2:30 a.m. local time. Two others were shot and taken to the hospital in the altercation while Quavo, who is Takeoff’s uncle, was unharmed. Takeoff was pronounced dead on the scene.

Born in Lawrenceville, Georgia, in 1994, Takeoff began rapping with Quavo (born Quavious Keyate Marshall) and his cousin Offset (born Kiari Kendrell Cephus) at age 14 in 2008 under the name Polo Club. They released their first mixtape as Migos, “Juug Season,” in 2011.

Migos is best known for their breakout single “Versace” in 2013 and their No. 1 hit from 2016, “Bad and Boujee.” Takeoff’s one and only solo album, “The Last Rocket,” debuted at No. 4 in 2018. He and Quavo just released their latest project as duo Unc & Phew, “Only Built for Infinity Links,” on Oct. 7.

Just last month, Takeoff and Quavo sat with Big Facts Pod and discussed the future of Migos with Offset.

“We don’t know all answers,” Takeoff said. “God know. So we pray a lot. And we tell him, whatever, whatever ain’t right, however you supposed to see it fit, you put it back together or however you do it. Only time will tell. We always family, now. Ain’t nothing gon’ change.”
