Taika Waititi directed two of the four Thor films starring Chris Hemsworth and as rumors that a fifth installment is being developed, the director is saying he is not involved.

After directing Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), Waititi’s involvement in the Thor franchise could have ended already. In a new interview promoting his latest film Next Goal Wins, Waititi says he is not working on the rumored Thor 5 film.

“I wouldn’t know if that’s accurate,” he tells Business Insider. “I know that I won’t be involved.”

He added, “I’m going to concentrate on these other films that I’ve signed on for.”

Waititi says he has other projects in the pipeline like the adaptation of the graphic novel The Incal and a movie in the Star Wars universe as well as the adaptation of the Kazuo Ishiguro novel Klara and the Sun.

“So that’s six, seven years gone,” Waititi said. “I’d imagine another Thor would be a lot sooner than that.”

The director says he has love for Marvel and said he loved “working with them” as well as the leading star Chris Hemsworth.

“I would never feel like they are cheating on me,” Waititi said about Marvel continuing the Thor franchise. “We’re in an open relationship, and it’s like if they want to see other people, I’m happy for that. I’d still get back into bed with them one day.”

Prior to Waititi taking over the Thor films, Kenneth Branagh directed the first film which was released in 2011 with Alan Taylor taking on the director role for the 2013 sequel titled Thor: The Dark World.
