Sam Neill stopped by The Graham Norton Show where host Graham Norton asked him about shooting the classic scene from Jurassic Park when Neill, playing Dr. Alan Grant, sees a dinosaur for the first time. Neill explained that what he was really looking at was director Steven Spielberg waiving a tennis ball at the end of a long stick. Norton wanted to recreate the scene with British comedian and actress Miranda Hart playing the Laura Dern role, Ewan McGregor as the director, and comedian John Bishop playing the tennis ball…or, rather, the dinosaur.
Speaking to ShortList while doing press for 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople,' actor gave his own guess as to what Grant has been up to since 'Jurassic Park III.' “I think the problem is that no one knows where Alan Grant is anymore,” Neill says.
Taika Waititi, the Kiwi writer-director behind last year’s blissfully funny vampire mockumentary (which we ranked as the 12th best movie of the year, but admittedly could have gone higher) returns with another must-see indie comedy, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, before the filmmaker moves into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with next year’s Thor: Ragnarok. Wilderpeople follows Ricky Baker, a hip-hop loving preteen who bounces from one foster home and juvie center to the next until he’s taken in by an aging couple (Sam Neil and Rima Te Wiata) in the Middle of Nowhere, New Zealand. Hunt for the Wilderpeople, which premiered to great reviews at the Sundance Film Festival in January, opens June 24.
