Burton, a Flint, Mich. native, was best known for playing Apollo Creed’s trainer Duke in the films. He won Flint Golden Gloves light heavyweight titles in 1955 and again in 1957, before fighting professionally briefly. He went on to start his acting career, which included roles in The Shining and Stir Crazy.

Turns out the Italian Stallion took a number of hard blows to the chest from the 6-foot-5 blond during a fight scene and ended up needing to be airlifted to a hospital. Stallone said he spent four and a half days in the hospital as a result of his injuries.
