Aretha Franklin’s body will go on public display during a four-day celebration of her life in her home town of Detroit. Authorities are drawing up plans for a musical tribute featuring major performers as a fitting send-off for the legendary soul singer, who died aged 76 on Thursday after battling pancreatic cancer. Franklin, the preacher’s daughter who became the long-reigning “Queen of Soul” with such hits as “Respect” and “Chain of Fools,” was born in Memphis, Tennessee but grew up in Detroit after moving there with her family at the age of four.
Aretha Franklin’s rep today announced memorial plans for the late singer, which will take place over three separate days and two different locations.
