      ‘Annabelle Comes Home’ Scares Up $3.5 Million at Tuesday Box Office

      “Annabelle Comes Home,” the latest film in the New Line horror franchise about an evil spirit trapped within a doll, made $3.5 million at the box office on Tuesday ahead of its Wednesday early opening.The film is projected to earn $30 million over the five-day opening weekend, with independent trackers saying it could go as high as $40 million. “Annabelle Comes Home” opens on 3,525 screens this weekend.“Annabelle Comes Home” opens against “Toy Story 4,” which in its second week, is expected to hang on to the top spot at the box office. The previous entry, “Annabelle: Creation,” made $4 million at the Thursday box office in August 2017, and it eventually opened to $35 million. The first film, “Annabelle,” did similarly in 2014, making $2.1 million in previews ahead of a $37.1 million opening.Another comp includes New Line’s recent “The Curse of La Llorona,” which made $2.8 million in its previews and opened to $26.3 million.Gary Dauberman directed “Annabelle Comes Home” about a teenager who unknowingly awakens an evil spirit trapped within a toy doll while the teenager is babysitting the daughter of Ed and Lorraine Warren. Dauberman also wrote the screenplay based on a story by James Wan.
