T.I., Justin Bieber and Nick Cannon show support for Chris Brown following rape allegation

Chris Brown is getting support from some of his famous friends in the music industry following his latest legal trouble.

The singer was arrested in Paris over the weekend after a woman accused him of rape. Although Brown was released without bail on Tuesday and allowed to return to the United States, the investigation of the case is ongoing. Brown has denied the allegation.

His sometime collaborator T.I. is behind Brown, at least so far, as he posted on Instagram and told TMZ cameras on Tuesday at Los Angeles International Airport.

“I know him personally. I don’t really know her,” T.I. said of why he’s standing behind Brown. “And there haven’t been any … overwhelming facts to show me that what he’s saying is not true, so I’m going to believe him. The climate of society right now is empowering victims, which is phenomenal, for women to find a voice and have the strength to speak out against perpetrators — that’s phenomenal — but y’all gotta also realize that it’s also arming people who have malicious intent and vindictive natures to go after people undeservedly. There’s a flip side to it.”

T.I. (real name Clifford Joseph Harris Jr.) explained that he’s reserving final judgment because people aren’t convicted until they’re found guilty in a court of law.

“People convict people. They’re convicted by public opinion before they even walk into the courtroom,” he said. “That’s not fair. That’s just simply not fair, period. I don’t care who you [inaudible], what color you [inaudible], what walk of life you come from, you’re supposed to have a fair trial. You’re supposed to be able to present your evidence, your defense. They’re supposed to present what they have against you. Then, supposed to be judged by a jury of your peers. Anything other than that, it ain’t fair.”

T.I. also managed to work in a compliment for Brown.

“If he did do what they said he did, he deserves to face punishment, consequences,” T.I. said. “I’m not saying because he’s incredibly talented and because he’s a black man, because he’s one of the greatest, most powerful voices of a generation that it should be overlooked if he did it,” T.I. continued. “I’m just saying that I’m not going to just hop on the bandwagon because somebody said something that hasn’t been proven.”

As TMZ also pointed out, Justin Bieber and Nick Cannon offered encouraging words on a video that Brown shared hours after his latest in a long list of legal problems, showing him practicing in a dance studio. “No one can touch you ur the GOAT,” Bieber commented. Cannon instructed Brown, “Stay Focused King!”
