SZA’s “Snooze” has been anointed R&B’s crowning achievement of the streaming era. Spotify has listed the record-breaking earworm as the No. 1 R&B song out of 100 tracks. For context, Spotify defined the streaming era as the years from 2015 until now. An official press release waxes poetic about the beauty of SZA’s hit single. Spotify detailed the song as a “sun-drenched” single that feels like a “walk in the park.” The streaming company also details why it was chosen as the single best track in music’s ongoing era.

“Despite the fact that she’s usually surrounded by exquisite production work, SZA’s vocals rarely fail to steal the show of any track she blesses,” the statement reads. “And on ‘Snooze,’ as she coos about the importance of not sleeping on the love of her life (figuratively speaking), music and lyrics intertwine harmoniously. Even while delivering one of her more restrained performances in recent memory, SZA’s voice stands apart.”

“In the context of R&B’s elite, it’s this precise quality that—creatively—puts SZA head and shoulders above the pack, and a huge reason why ‘Snooze’ sits alone as the greatest R&B song of the streaming era.”

SZA took to her Instagram Story to celebrate the new accomplishement. She shared a screenshot of the milestone and gave props to Frank Ocean, who finished in second place on the list. “Side by side with my actual king,” she typed.

While “Snooze’s” placement on the list will surely be a topic of debate, the list features many notable songs from over the past decade. Frank Ocean’s “Pink & White,” Daniel Caesar & H.E.R.’s “Best Part,” Beyoncé’s “Cuff It,” and Bryson Tiller’s “Don’t” all round out numbers 2-5. Solange’s “Cranes in the Sky,” Summer Walker’s “Session 32,” Rihanna’s “Needed Me,” Jazmine Sullivan’s “Pick Up Your Feelings,” and Chris Brown & Drake’s “No Guidance” complete the remaining top ten in positions 6-10.

SZA’s “Snooze” was critically acclaimed upon release. The track would also go on to win the artist a Grammy award for Best R&B Song. Additionally, SZA’s hit single broke some records on the Billboard charts. In February 2023, the song earned an unprecedented 30th week atop of the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart—the most by any song in the chart’s history, Billboard reports.
