SZA Fulfills 7-Year-Old Dream To Appear On ‘Sesame Street’

Zora Neale Hurston famously said, “There are years that ask questions and years that answer.” For SZA, 2017 was the year where she asked, “HOW DOES ONE GET ON SESAME STREET !?”

2024 brought that answer, as the SOS singer revealed that she recently appeared on the hit children’s series.

When sharing that her dream came true, SZA tweeted, “GODS TIMING !!! FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS AND SAY THEM OUT LOUD !!NEVER GIVE UP !! ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE I BELIEVE IN YOU !!”

She later took to Instagram, calling the experience “the purest happiest day from top to bottom.” The 34-year-old added, “Thank you for having me and for patching up my inner child @sesamestreet !! I LOVE YOU !!”

SZA also shared a series of behind-the-scenes photos from set, wearing a Coogi cardigan and smiling widely with Elmo, Oscar The Grouch, Big Bird, Abby Cadabby, and more beloved characters.

In a separate viral clip, SZA was dubbed an “honorary muppet” and had a quick check-in with Elmo.

“Well, SZA, did you have fun?,” Elmo asked. To which the New Jersey native replied, “I had the best time, Elmo. Thank you for having me. I can’t wait to come back.”

This adorable moment comes weeks after Elmo took over Twitter by checking in on everyone’s mental health. Dionne Warwick responded with a somber gif of herself before responding, “Just kidding, @elmo. I am doing well.”

After garnering nearly 215 million impressions on his initial question, Elmo replied, “Wow! Elmo is glad he asked! Elmo learned that it is important to ask a friend how they are doing. Elmo will check in again soon, friends! Elmo loves you. #EmotionalWellBeing.”

There’s no word on when SZA’s episode will air, but she joins the likes of Usher, Pharrell, Patti LaBelle, Beyoncé, Kobe Bryant, Jamie Foxx, Whoopi Goldberg, Samuel L. Jackson, and more stars who have all made their way to 123 Sesame Street.
