Sydney Sweeney Is Glad for ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 Time Jump: ‘Much More Room’ for Cassie’s Growth

Sydney Sweeney actually couldn’t be happier that “Euphoria” Season 3 — whose filming was recently delayed at HBO — will involve a time jump from Season 2.

The Emmy-nominated actress revealed in a Who What Wear cover story that the extra time between Seasons 2 and 3 of the teen drama will give the actress “more room for growth” as a person, which no doubt will be reflected in her character Cassie’s arc for the upcoming “wild” installment.

“I actually like it because there’s so much room for growth for both me as a person and also Cassie as a character,” Sweeney said.

She teased of the upcoming storyline, “It’s going to be very, very wild.”

A recent statement from HBO revealed that “Euphoria” showrunner Sam Levinson is still at work on Season 3 scripts. A network representative said that HBO and Levinson “remain committed to making an exceptional third season” and that “in the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”

Sweeney recently told MTV at SXSW that she was “going into ‘Euphoria’” production next prior to HBO’s statement of a delayed shoot.

Sweeney, whose Fifty-Fifty production banner backed the horror film “Immaculate” and rom-com “Anyone But You,” told Who What Wear that she is still “very, very deep in the trenches with a lot of projects,” including the “Barbarella” remake. Her “Euphoria” co-stars Jacob Elordi, Zendaya, Colman Domingo, and Hunter Schafer are also appearing in a slew of projects, with two-time Emmy winner Zendaya leading Luca Guadagnino’s latest film “Challengers” and “Dune: Part Two.”

“Euphoria” Season 2 concluded in February 2022. HBO drama chief Francesca Orsi previously said the third season was expected to air in 2025. Showrunner Levinson shared with Elle that the third season will be “film noir” style centered on Zendaya’s Rue as she “explores what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world.” The show’s time jump will set Season 3 approximately five years after the events of Season 2, taking the characters out of high school. Zendaya is also slated to direct an episode in Season 3.
