Swizz Beatz, Timbaland To Be Honored At 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards

An esteemed list of honorees has been revealed for the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards. Announced on Tuesday (Oct. 3), the event will recognize the achievements of creators who are impactful to Hip-Hop culture globally.

This year, LL COOL J, founder and CEO of Rock The Bells, will present the “Rock The Bells Cultural Influence Award” to both Timbaland and Swizz Beatz for their respective cultural contributions, talents, and unbound creativity.

Additionally, the Queens native is set to take the stage with Rakim, performing a tribute to Marley Marl as the superproducer receives the 2023 I Am Hip-Hop Award. The distinction celebrates the pioneer for trailblazing the world of sampling as house producer of the iconic Juice Crew which includes rappers Big Daddy Kane, the late Biz Markie, Roxanne Shanté, Kool G Rap, MC Shan, and Masta Ace.

Additionally, Kiernan “AKA” Forbes will be honored with the “Global Visionary Award” posthumously for his profound impact on the global Hip-Hop landscape. Family members Lynn and Tony Forbes will accept the award on his behalf during a tribute segment for the International airings of the ceremony.

Set to be aired on Oct. 10 at 9 p.m. ET, after filming in Atlanta today, the 2023 BET Awards are hosted by Fat Joe for the second consecutive year. Performers include Offset, Sexyy Red, GloRilla, DaBaby, and Fivio Foreign and top nominees are Cardi B and 21 Savage.

“This year’s BET Hip Hop Awards will mark the culmination of our year-long celebration of Hip-Hop’s storied creation and the art form’s sonic and cultural expansion,” expressed Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy for BET.
