Swizz Beatz and his son Nasir Dean hit the road for Drive With Swizz Beatz and strengthened their bond in the process. Speaking with VIBE during the premiere of the show last week at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, the father-son duo described their relationship and favorite moments from the docuseries.

“It impacted our relationship in the best ways possible. There was nothing that we felt like we couldn’t conquer, we couldn’t share with the world, and it was limitless in a way,” explained Nasir. “It was limitless. I cherish that. And I know my father does as well.”

“He said it best,” added the famed producer.

As musicians, the duo also discussed the music and finding passion in each city featured in the seven-episode series.

“It was creatively the most inspiring thing because when you travel to different places, when you see other cultures, when you meet great people, you’re going to get inspired naturally. The whole thing about the show is that it was so organic that whatever that is created from that [musically] is only going to be great,” shared Nasir who performs under the stage name Note Mercado.

“I think naturally traveling and collecting music has been something that I’ve been doing for many years, which actually, I call it the cleanse because when you travel places, you clean your ears from the norm of what you would hear every day back home,” chimed in his Grammy Award-winning dad. “When I travel, I collect music.”

Drive With Swizz Beatz premieres on Hulu on Thursday (Nov. 16) with all episodes available to stream. The pair travels to Los Angeles, New York, Houston, Atlanta, Japan, and Saudi Arabia, learning about distinct car culture and automobile enthusiasts.

“I think that audience would be surprised how much community that they have actually around them. When you come to L.A., you’re just thinking low riders. You’re not thinking hot rods, you’re not thinking [about] many other car cultures that’s right here in L.A. in your backyard or even in Houston [with] mud racing, or the low rider culture in Japan,” explained the 45-year-old.

“The show allowed us to show you different dynamics that you didn’t even know that were maybe right around the corner from you.”
