Swerve Strickland Responds To The Critics Of How His AEW Title Reign Is Being Handled
Swerve Strickland wants fans to continue to want more from his AEW World Title reign.
All Elite Wrestling‘s Champion Swerve Strickland recently sat down with Adrian Hernandez. During the interview, Strickland addressed the critics of his current AEW World Title reign by saying his goal is for the people to want more and not give them everything at once.
“I’m always wanting people to want more,” Swerve Strickland said. “Even people now in my title, and they’re like, ‘Yeah, but we want more.’ I’m like, that’s the point. People want everything dressed down now so they can get tired of it later. I’m the opposite. I want you to want more now and then get fed as the nine-course meal. You get more as it goes.
“Rather than you just get the steak at the beginning and then ahh, I’m too full, this is too much. Now you want a salad. Now you’re wanting bread as that goes on, that’s how things go. Like I always say, compare television. Television people think works like the rate of a faucet. And it doesn’t; it works like an IV drip.
“It’s more of the pacing. Eventually, you will get your full glass, but it’s not instant. Turn it on, and you get a full glass because then there’s no nourishment. You get the nourishment as it goes. So, let’s get it all out.
“But that’s the pacing of how we work these things. I’ve never been an instant gratification person, either. I want you to appreciate time and time and time again. Every time you see me on screen, you never getting like oh, there’s too much of him.
“[I want them] like, ‘Oh, there he was. Oh my god. Okay, I’m tuned in. Man, I want more.’ Then you got to tune in next week. Or maybe you tune into Rampage, or maybe you tune into Collision.
“Maybe you might see me somewhere else. It’s never just instant; you never get all of me instantly. Like my importance on the show is going to grow. My stance in the company is going to grow. The company itself is going to grow, and we’re going to grow together.
“But not like you’re going to flip the switch on and then like all sudden everything is about me and the AEW World Title. The majority of it? Sure, it’s a big, impactful thing. But all these other things have to play out as well in order to make that next month, the next three months matter for this.”
