Sweden was eliminated from the 2018 World Cup on Saturday after suffering a 2-0 loss to England at Samara Arena. But although it lost, the Swedes can go home with their heads held high, having eliminated Italy and the Netherlands to qualify and surprising everyone by topping a tough group that included Germany, Mexico, and South Korea.
Unfortunately, the quarterfinal against a talented, young England side that has a nation beginning to believe proved a bridge too far.
But while Swedish fans will ultimately take heart from their team’s unexpected success at the World Cup, it’s hard to reconcile those feelings when you’re sitting in a packed stadium watching your team lose.
Just take a look at this poor fan.
If you could put a face on what it’s like to have your World Cup dreams crushed, this would probably be it. Even Fox Sports commentator Ian Wright admitted it was unfortunate that there were so many “sad beautiful women” following the loss.
Although Wright’s colleague quickly retorted that there were still other beautiful women who were “happy” following England’s win.
“I’m just so sorry that so many beautiful women are so sad right now.”

There, there, Swedish fans, attractive and otherwise. We know it’s no fun to get knocked out of the World Cup. Heck, we just wish the U.S. team had made it to the tournament in the first place.
But look on the bright side. Even though you’re no longer in the World Cup, you’ve still got the sixth highest standard of living in the world. And you gave the world Ikea!
