Suzanne Morphew's Sister Says The Missing Mother Had Shared Fears About Her Safety

Weeks after the arrest of the Barry Morphew for the alleged murder of his wife, Suzanne, the missing mother's sister has told a radio station that her sister expressed fears about her safety in the months before she vanished, over a year ago. The couple have two children together.

Suzanne Morphew, 49, was last seen on May 10, 2020, after going for a bicycle ride in Chaffee County. For over a year after she went missing, her husband, Barry Morphew, denied he had anything to do with her disappearance. He also denied accusations of infidelity. He had suggested that Suzanne could have been attacked by wildlife.

But on May 5, 53-year-old Morphew was arrested and charged with the first-degree murder of Suzanne as well as tampering with evidence. It’s unclear what evidence led to Barry's arrest; his wife’s body has yet to be found.

His relatives have said that Barry Morphew was in Denver when Suzanne disappeared, KCNC reported.

On Saturday, Melinda Moorman phoned the radio show Heart of the Rockies Radio. When asked, she said that her sister had told her she had fears about what might happen to her.

"Yes, Suzanne did. She definitely made implications that she had concerns about her safety," Moorman said. "And the condition of their relationship had, I think, deteriorated quite a bit over the last several years," she said.

"She was transparent with me, particularly on [the] Friday before she went missing, she revealed a very telling text to me – it was very profound, very transparent and it showed the state of her mind," said Moorman.

She did not reveal the exact wording of the text message.

The sisters had "a very intuitive and a very close relationship and we were very connected,” she told the station, adding that the family is suffering a "very difficult and complex grief."

"Without her remains, it is a devastating and heartbreaking place to live," she said. "We do hope and we pray that her remains will be found and the person responsible will come clean and reveal the truth about where she is so that we can give her a proper burial and love her the way that she needed to be loved," she told the radio host.

Barry Morphew is being held at the Chaffee County Detention Center without bond. He has not submitted a plea in the case and is due back in court on May 27.
